What is the best way to take kefir?
Kefir can be taken on an empty stomach or with food. It can be taken straight, or mixed into a smoothie for breakfast or a mid-morning/afternoon snack.
-
What is the recommended serving size?
Adults with a typical gut should start on 30ml a day, building slowly to 50ml. You can add a teaspoon every 3-5 days, depending on how you are feeling, until you reach your desired dose. If you have issues when you increase the amount of kefir you are consuming, go back to your previous serving. It takes time for your body to repair and it’s not a race. Children, aged 12 months plus, can start on 5ml building to 30ml by 3 years old.

What are the white floaties in my kefir?
The white floaties, which can look like cauliflower, are the kefir. These are good for you and you don't need to strain them from your drink. The more the merrier!
-
Should I mix my kefir?
Yes, you can rotate your bottle to spread the good bacteria before opening it. Do not shake the bottle. Open your bottle over a clean container.
-
Should I mix my kombucha before drinking it?
No, you do not need to mix your kombucha prior to consumption.
-
My kefir or kombucha is not fizzy. Is it safe to drink?
Absolutely. The fizz is a by-product of our two-step fermentation process and is not a necessity. You may find the drink gets fizzier the closer the kefir or kombucha gets to its best-before date, when the probiotics have had more time to feed on the prebiotics. Some of our customers prefer it to be fizzy, while others prefer no fizz. If you would like to increase the fizz, you can try leaving it out on the bench for the day to speed up the fermentation process. If you would like to get rid of the fizz, you can try releasing the cap often until the fizz diminishes.
-
I'm on antibiotics. Should I still take kefir or kombucha?
Yes, take it two hours after your antibiotics, so that the medications don't kill the probiotics in the kefir or kombucha drink.
-
Does kefir replace a probiotic?
Our coconut water kefir contains probiotics (the good bacteria) and prebiotics (food for the good bacteria). So, for some people, Kefir may be enough to keep their gut on track. Others, however, who have specific digestive issues may need concentrated forms of probiotics or other strains. Coconut Water Kefir is excellent to use alongside a course of specific probiotic strains, if required.
-
Does kombucha replace a probiotic?
The best way to get probiotics is through fermented foods and drinks. Our Kc Kombucha is naturally fermented and contains probiotics. The probiotics in kombucha will be different from the probiotics that you find in fermented vegetables like sauerkraut, or other drinks like kefir. Therefore, it is recommended to eat and drink a variety of fermented foods in your diet, and if you do this, then you should not need a probiotic supplement. However, sometimes, you may need other specific strains which you are not getting through eating a variety of fermented food and drinks. Each person is unique, so it is different for everyone.
